Multitasking

10:54 pm

Computers these days can handle so many things at once—from instant messaging to email to web browsing to playing games to writing papers. You might be saying to yourself, “It really doesn’t take much for computers to handle those apps!” You’re right, it doesn’t. But that’s not my point… I’m talking about people, they’re developing into multitasking machines! Take a look at how you use your computer. You might browse the web to look for information about a paper you’re writing, while chatting with your friends and checking your email. And to add to that you could be doing other things that have nothing to do with your computer. Maybe you’re watching TV. Maybe you’re talking to someone, eating, or listening to music. That’s a lot to handle—a lot to keep track of! No wonder they say people have short attention spans these days!

Regrets

4:12 pm

Do you ever look back and regret the decisions you’ve made—anything from the little things to the big ones? Most people probably do to some extent. Lately, I’ve been looking back at what choices I’ve made. Although the decisions I made weren’t really bad, I sometimes wish I would’ve done things a little differently. Specifically, I feel that during college I didn’t gain enough experience in the computer field. Nearly every job lead that I find wants you to have several years of experience. I look back and regret the experience I could have gained.

But I’ve come to decide that you have to make the best of the decisions you’ve already made. You can’t live a life of regret, or you will be down all the time.

Believe & Achieve

2:37 am

During my senior year at Millington High School, our Varsity football team had a slogan, “Believe & Achieve.” To us, it was more than just any old slogan. It was the truth.

We lost our first game of the season to one of the worst teams in our conference. We knew we were supposed to be better, but we let ourselves down. That one loss brought our team together, and we focused on our new slogan. Every time we entered or left the locker room, we smacked our hands on a poster with the slogan written on it. We knew that we had to believe in ourselves—no matter who we were playing—in order to have a successful season. We ended up beating the defending state champs (Montrose) in the playoffs, only to lose to the eventual champs (Detroit Country Day) in a close game. We didn’t win the state championship like we hoped, but it was a great experience because we all came together and we believed in ourselves.

“Believe & Achieve” is also an important slogan for everyday life. In order to make any great accomplishments, we need to believe in ourselves. The second that you doubt yourself, you will begin to fail. If you really believe that you can do something, and you put the effort into it, it will become much easier to accomplish. This is something I’ve believed in since that football season.

Court Obsession

2:42 pm

With all the recent news about the Scott Peterson trial, I’ve been wondering what the media is thinking. Is really necessary to have a meaningless trial as the BIG news story. Don’t get me wrong, it was a horrible thing for him to do, but is it really necessary to follow every little detail in the case? It doesn’t affect any of our lives. There are more important things that the media could cover, but instead they cover a meaningless trial to attract more viewers/readers. The media’s priority seems to be money instead of providing important news or information.

What are your life goals?

4:04 pm

What major goals do you have set that would make your life feel complete? Maybe it’s to be successful at whatever you do, earn a good amount of money, or possibly to achieve something down the road. Chances are that you have a few goals that will not be accomplished for awhile. Should those really be your most important life goals? What if you’re never able to accomplish them or if you find out you have 24 hours to live? Will you be disappointed that those goals will go unfulfilled? There’s another way to figure out what your life goals should be.

Ask yourself this question: What goals would be the most important to me, no matter if I die tomorrow or if I live to be over 100? These should be your life goals. They should be the most important things in your life, and your life should be happy and complete by just accomplishing those goals. You’ll probably still have other smaller (but long term) goals like mentioned above, but you should not let them determine how things are going in your life.

This Comprehensible World

11:52 pm

“The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible.”

Einstein said this, because he thought it seemed miraculous that the world could be explained by math and science. Where did the laws of physics come from? Why wouldn’t the world just develop in mass chaos without any laws to govern it? Just imagine if the world really didn’t have any laws of physics that it had to follow. That world would probably be incomprehensible!!

(This idea is part of the Intelligent Design Theory.)

Self-Restraint

6:30 pm

I recently saw a guy talk on TV about how Americans these days lack self-restraint. We just do whatever seems ok for ourselves without thinking about what’s right or without thinking of the consequences, even if it is something selfish or immoral. He said that some of the reality TV shows are examples of this. People just don’t seem to have the same morals that they used to just a few years ago. What do you think about this?

Full moon: Bad luck or superstition?

9:12 pm

Do you believe in superstitions, such as a full moon bringing bad luck? I wouldn’t say that I’m superstitous, but some things make me wonder…

Just the other day, everything seemed to be going wrong at work, one thing after another. After awhile, I started wondering if there was a full moon. I had no idea if the moon was even close to being full, but later on I found out it in fact was a full moon!! This has actually happened several times, and I never knew beforehand if it was a full moon or not!

Have you ever had experiences like this? If not, try paying attention on days that things just seem to go wrong, and see if it happens to be a full moon.
